ππ¨π§πππ¬π¬π’π¨π§: I stalk our users.
Not in a creepy wayβ¦(ok maybe a ππͺπ΅π΅ππ¦ π
)
But in a product obsessed, ethical way.
In Retoolβs early days, David Hsu said theyβd catch issues and proactively reach out before users even had a chance to complain.
That stuck with meβ¦ and I thought: why arenβt we doing this?
So now:
π user stuck? no βahaβ? slack pings me their info
π I watch their session replay (that red squiggly line is their cursor)
π then I iMessage them with context, solutions, and a ready list
The results? Pure gold.
Itβs reshaping how I approach product iterations.
Forget guessing why a user didnβt go from A β B.
Forget cold βcan I get 15 minutes?β calls.
I know exactly what they were trying to do.. because I watched it.
When I reach out, itβs not a generic βhey, how are you liking it? any feedback?β
Itβs a contextual message:
β‘ knowing exactly what they were trying to do
β‘ acknowledging they didnβt quite get there
β‘ and then getting them there
Product-led growth sounds nice. But the real unlock is knowing exactly why users didn't hit bottom funnel, not iterating blindly on self-serve flows.
